Baile Ricead is situated close to the picturesque village of Rathvilly nestled along the River Slaney. We are ideally located for walking holidays, being close to the well known Wicklow Way and Lugnaquilla Mountain (3rd highest in Ireland). The less ambitious walker is well catered for with a series of looped walks varying distances along quiet country roads.The Carlow Garden Trail currently features 16 different gardening attractions which ranges from small to very large gardens, garden centres and forest parks and from old to new, so there is something to simulate both the novice and experienced gardener.
Close by are the Altamount Gardens which is widely respected as the jewel in Irelands gardening crown, Altamont Gardens are an enchanting blend of formal and informal gardens with riverside walks covering over 40 acres. A fascinating walk through the Arboretum, Bog Garden and Ice Age Glen with its canopy of ancient oaks and huge stone outcrops leads the visitor to the River Slaney.
The river Slaney, just 2 miles away offers excellent game fishing with good catches of salmon and trout in season. Also the river Barrow is an excellent destination for the fishing enthusiast. For the golf enthusiast there are a number of fine, competitevly priced courses in the immediate locality. These include Carlow, Killerig, Kilkea Castle, Mount Wolsely, Rathsallagh and Baltinglass.
Baile Ricead provides an ideal base for touring the many heritage attractions of counties Carlow, Wicklow and Kildare. The Browne's Hill and Haroldstown Dolmens are well preserved examples of portals dolmens are within easy reach. Powerscourt Gardens, the peace and tranquility of Glendalough and Avoca in Wicklow may all be enjoyed on a leisurely day's outing.
